Tulare lake in the San Joaquin Valley of California was once the largest body of water west of the Mississippi. Diversion, land and water use, plus many drought years resulted it virtually disappearing. Since 2023 was a very wet year coupled with its great Sierra snowpack melting, the lake returned for a while. Both the human and natural were impacted with flooding and once again its’ subsequent decline.
